The Device Properties - Performance Monitors property allows you to configure and manage performance monitors for the device. Performance monitors gather data about the performance components of the selected device for which they are configured. For example, performance monitors can gather CPU and memory utilization data, which can then be used to create reports that trend utilization and availability of the selected device. Although performance monitors are managed from the Monitor Library, you can also access the library from this device property. For more information, see Performance monitors overview.
Configure the following:
- Add. Click to configure a new performance monitor. Follow the directions in the Performance Monitors Properties wizard.
- Options. Use this row menu option to Configure additional data stream options for the pre-configured performance monitor. If an error occurs, a warning message appears directing you to the problem. If it is a timeout error, you are prompted to open the Advanced dialog to change the Timeout value. For any other error, you are returned to this dialog.
- Enable. Click the box next to the monitor name to enable or disable the monitor.
The following monitors are pre-configured (default) performance monitors. These monitors are ready to be added to the device.
- CPU Utilization. Monitors the CPU utilization on the device.
- Disk Utilization. Monitors the available disk space for the device.
- Interface Utilization. Monitors interfaces on the device.
- Memory Utilization. Monitors memory utilization on the device.
- Ping Latency and Availability. Monitors how often and quickly the device responds to a Ping check.
If you select a specific performance monitor without configuring the monitor manually, the default collection type is automatically selected. The collection type refers to the item on the current device that is being monitored. (This does not pertain to the custom VMI and SNMP monitors that may appear):
- CPU - All
- Disk - All
- Interface - All, Default, or Specific
- Memory - All
- Ping - All
For example, if you have multiple CPUs running on the device, WhatsUp Gold gathers statistics on all of them by default.
- Save. Click to store your changes to the device.
