The Device Properties - Device information property allows you to view and update device statistics, configure network interfaces, and add device attributes, notes, and custom links to the selected device.

The first section of the Device information property provides device statistics and allows you to modify basic information for the selected device, such as display name, device type, device status, host name, and IP Address.

The second section of the Device information property allows you to view customer specific, descriptive information about the selected device, such as contact person, location, and serial number. The contact, description, and location are added by WhatsUp Gold when the device is added to the database, either by the Device Discovery wizard or through another method.

The third section of the Device information property allows you to add free-form messages to the selected device.

The fourth section of the Device information property allows you to add hyperlinks to the selected device.

Configure the following:

  • Display Name. Enter a unique name for the device. This name is populated during discovery, but can be changed by the user at any time. Changing the name will not change how the device is polled, only how it is displayed in WhatsUp Gold.
  • Device Type. Select the appropriate device type for the device from the list menu. An icon that represents the device type displays in all views.
  • Device Status. Displays the health status of the device.
  • Host Name. Displays the official network name of the device if the polling method is Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP). The network name must be a name that is linked (resolved) to an IP Address.
  • IP Address. Displays the IP Address of the device.
  • Network Interfaces. Add additional network interfaces for the device. For example, computer port, network interface controller, network socket.
注: Any changes you make in this area or any area of the Device information property must be saved to ensure that your changes are stored in the database.

To add attributes to the selected device:

  1. Click Create New. The Add Attribute dialog appears.
  2. Enter a unique name for the Attribute name and a corresponding Attribute value in their respective boxes.
  3. Click OK. The new attribute appears in the Attributes list.
  4. Click Save. A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the screen.
注: You can use the row menu option to Edit or Delete an existing attribute.

To add a note:

  1. Enter a free-form message in the Notes box. The default content displays the time and date when WhatsUp Gold added the device to the database. You may use the box to include additional information about the device. For example, you may enter historical information about the device, physical location, or notes relating to the actions configured for the device.
  2. Click Save. A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the screen.

To add a custom link:

  1. Click Create New. The Add Custom Link dialog appears.
  2. Enter a unique name in the Display name box and the URL in the Hyperlink box.
  3. Click OK. The new custom link appears in the Custom Links list.
  4. Click Save. A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the screen.
注: You can use the row menu option to Edit or Delete an existing custom link.
