What's in LoadMaster 360 1.0?
LoadMaster 360 version 1.0 was released on 10th October 2023. The LoadMaster 360 launch focuses on the following themes. Refer to the following sections for more information.
Analytics and telemetry
Application owners lack comprehensive visibility into their application performance and reliability. Applications are deployed across many environments and multiple teams maintain them. Application teams must depend on network engineers to provide network-based metrics. These metrics then have to be collated, organized, and analyzed to glean useful information - an excruciatingly slow process.
With comprehensive dashboards, application owners can monitor metrics such as performance, traffic flows, and application reliability, and provide guidance to determine how to solve the problem at hand. Simplify troubleshooting and assess health and performance at a glance with big-picture and application-specific dashboards.
Refer to the sections below for further information about the analytics and telemetry features in LoadMaster 360.
Dashboards
The dashboards in LoadMaster 360 enable you to see critical and desirable information at a glance. The dashboards are customizable by each user and are shared. The system comes with some default pre-defined dashboards to get you started, but you can create new dashboards for a custom experience and you can add any of our widgets in any order, size, or by specific filters.
Overview Dashboard
A pre-defined dashboard called Overview Dashboard contains widgets such as Application Health, Application Connections, and Top CPU Devices. The Overview Dashboard also provides Edge Security Pack (ESP) widgets such as the Top URI Requests and Top 10 Client IP's.
Dashboard features (widgets)
Widgets create a visual display of the analytics and telemetry available on LoadMaster 360. Widgets have a selectable time interval in the top-right corner, for example, Last hour. The exact timeframe is also shown in the bottom-left of the widget. Some widgets show current information (not information over a time period) - these widgets have a grayed-out clock symbol in the top-right. Widgets can be used to create your own customized dashboard.
Demo mode
Demo mode is a way for you to automatically populate the system with sample data. The goal here was to give you a glance at "what could be". The entire system creates a sample environment where you can see what data we collect, how LoadMasters are managed, incident alerting, and the overall value of the system without needing to spend any time deploying or adding your LoadMasters. All this data is simulated, and is not specific to your environment. It is simply a way to show you around the new platform with populated data. This feature automatically generates realistic graphs, tables, incidents, and inventory items, allowing you to effortlessly demonstrate the power and versatility of LoadMaster 360.
Asset management
Refer to the following sections for details on the asset management functionality in LoadMaster 360.
Device Inventory
The Device Inventory allows you to add and manage Connectors and LoadMasters. This is located under the Infrastructure menu.
The Device Inventory provides:
- The ability to create and manage Connectors
- The ability to add existing LoadMasters
- The ability to license and add new LoadMasters
- An overall summary of your infrastructure
- The LoadMaster details page
Application inventory
The application inventory shows all the applications you defined with key summary information. You will first need to map your Virtual Services to applications after adding your LoadMasters for the first time.
Application mapping
In LoadMaster 360, the concept of applications is elevated to the top. Our customers load balance their applications, such as Microsoft Exchange, Citrix StoreFront, or websites, through the LoadMaster. Virtual Services are created on the LoadMaster that handle these complex rules, but LoadMaster 360 simplifies that view. The mapping of applications provides valuable insights into not only your specific Virtual Services, but how they create the whole application itself. All the analytics, performance, and health information for all the Virtual Services are brought together to provide you with a view you care about.
When you add a LoadMaster to LoadMaster 360 for the first time, you will receive a notification prompting you to map your Virtual Services.
You can map Virtual Services into an Application in two ways:
- Quick Mapping: A swift way to map Virtual Services. This is a 1 to 1 mapping.
- Manual Mapping: Create applications and assign up to 15 Virtual Services to a single application.
License Repository
The License Repository in LoadMaster 360 provides details about your LoadMaster licenses. LoadMaster 360 currently supports perpetual license. A perpetual license may be a subscription, free LoadMaster, or trial LoadMaster. Using LoadMaster 360, you can manage your license information from this section. The License Repository enables you to:
- View Expiring subscriptions
- Export the license repository to CSV
- Associate an Order ID with the LoadMaster 360 account
- Manually sync with the license database
This page displays key information regarding your current license details. This includes Serial number, License Name, Status, Bandwidth, SSL TPS, Order ID, Kill Date, Support Expiry Date, and Activation Date. If you have licensed a LoadMaster using LoadMaster 360, you will see the Device Name and IP Address.
Certificate management
After adding a LoadMaster to LoadMaster 360, you will be able to monitor your SSL certificates. In this first release, key information is provided on what certificates are in use, what applications are using them, the security posture, and alerts are sent relating to the expiration of your certificates. The Certificates page enables you to:
- Display the Virtual Service usage per certificate
- Display certificate expiry status (Expired, Less than 30 days, Less than 90 days, More than 90 days)
- Show/Hide Certificates
- Display key certificate meta data including: Type, Identifier, Common Name, Issuer, LoadMaster, Application and Expiry Date
Incidents
Refer to the sections below for details on the incidents functionality in LoadMaster 360.
Incidents Center
We understand how frustrating it is to waste time getting bombarded by and responding to non-critical alerts. Most of the time these messages are not formatted well and are too complex to understand what to do about them. LoadMaster 360 removes the complexity and provides an abstract layer of context enrichment, so you can understand the impact of each alert without having a deep understanding of the complex messaging system.
Key features of the Incidents Center:
The Incidents Center provides a wealth of information and tools to effectively manage your system's incidents. Here are its main components:
- Detailed information on issues and events: Gain in-depth insights into the issues and events affecting your LoadMasters.
- Issue management: Effectively manage and address issues that arise, ensuring the smooth operation of your environment.
- Communication channels: External alerting to specific team members when an issue is detected, updated, or resolved.
- Take control of your incident management by manually acknowledging issues as they arise.
Understanding issues:
An "issue" in LoadMaster 360 represents a grouping of one or more related events. To illustrate, consider the following scenario:
- An event occurs when a Virtual Service goes down.
- Another event takes place when the Virtual Service becomes available again.
While these events happen at different times, they are part of the same issue. The Incidents Center helps you to identify and manage these interconnected events efficiently.
Communications channels
With this release, we introduce enhanced features for configuring communication channels within LoadMaster 360. These channels are vital for receiving email notifications when issues occur, ensuring that you stay informed and responsive to system incidents.
You can access the communications channels through two convenient methods:
- Hover over the Incidents tab and select Communications channels from the drop-down list.
- Click the Communications channels option located in the top-right corner of the Incidents Center page.
You can customize your notifications by establishing rules, which can be applied either globally across your system or on a per-asset basis. These rules empower you to define precise settings for notification schedules, including specific days, hours, and desired levels of severity (Critical or Warning).
System
The System menu can be used to configure and display information specific to LoadMaster 360 users and billing information.
User management
User management allows owners and admins to add any other users to the system at no additional cost. This is not a pay-per-seat model.
Key capabilities:
- Role-based permissions
- Add, modify, or delete additional users
Usage & billing
Your subscription and usage is displayed in LoadMaster 360. The types of information that is exposed are:
- LoadMaster 360 Subscription details including the Plan, Activation date, Next bill date, and Order ID
- Subscriptions add-ons
- Assets overview: View information relating to how many assets you are using
- Mapped application usage: Shows the amount of assigned Virtual Services per asset.
