Setting the network timeout
The network timeout is the number of seconds that elapses before WS_FTP stops waiting for an FTP site to respond. Normally, the network timeout is determined by your Winsock DLL . You can set it to less time than your Winsock DLL, but setting it higher will not affect anything.
- From the Site Manager, select the site in the Sites list.
- Click Edit.
- Select the Advanced dialog.
- Enter the number of seconds for the Network timeout.
In addition to the network timeout setting within WS_FTP, there is also a "server timeout" that is determined by the FTP site. Most FTP sites will shut down the connection to a client such as WS_FTP after a few minutes of inactivity. You can specify the Keep alive option, on the Site Options: Advanced dialog, to keep the connection open for a certain amount of time.
Timeouts when uploading Web pages: If the FTP site to which you upload your Web pages times out, see Connecting to an Internet Service Provider.
