Logging on with a User ID, password, and account

Logging on with a user ID, password, and/or account

To log on to an FTP site, you must identify yourself with a user ID and password. For sites that allow anonymous logins, you can use the word anonymous as a user ID and an e-mail address as a password.

However, FTP sites that are not open to the general public, or that allow you to upload files, usually require users to identify themselves with a special user ID, password, and (sometimes) an account number or name. FTP sites such as these are used for exchanging confidential files within an organization, posting of personal Web pages, or storing photographs for ads in on-line auctions.

To change a site configuration from an anonymous login to a private login:

  1. Get the user ID, password, and account name or number (if applicable) from the FTP site administrator, your ISP, a co-worker, or other authorized source of information about the FTP site.
  2. In the toolbar, click Connect to open the Site Manager.
  3. Select the site from the Sites list, then click Edit.
  4. Make sure Anonymous is cleared and enter your User ID, Password, and Account (if applicable).
  5. Click OK.
Note: We do not recommend turning on Save Password unless no one else has access to your WS_FTP folder!
