Creating and using hotdrops

HotDrops are shortcuts to remote directories that you can create anywhere on your local system. They appear in the Send To > WS_FTP HotDrops menu with the remote directory name.

You can drag files and folders to the icon and drop them. The files and folders will then be automatically uploaded to that site. The Transfer Manager shows the progress of the transfers.

If you double-click on the file, WS_FTP launches and automatically connects to the site and navigates to the local and remote folders that you identify when you set up the hotdrop.

To set up a HotDrop:

  1. Connect to a remote site.
  2. Navigate to the directory you want to use as your HotDrop destination.
  3. Right-mouse click in the remote pane and select Create HotDrop. The Create HotDropdialog appears.
  4. Verify or enter the location of the destination in the Destination Folder box.
  5. Enter the local folder WS_FTP opens when you open this hotdrop from the shell.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select where you want to save the HotDrop file, and what you want to call it.
  8. Click Save.

You can synchronize files using the HotSync feature which works in much the same way as the HotDrop feature. For more details see Executing Control Files Using HotSync (WS_FTP Professional).
