Renaming a file before or after transfer

Not all FTP sites allow you to rename files and folders on the site. You can rename files only if you have an account on the FTP site and permission to rename files and folders.

If you cannot rename a file on an FTP site, you may not have renaming privileges on the site, or you may be trying to use a long name on an FTP site that does not allow long names. Try a name of eight characters or less.

To rename a file on an FTP site:

  1. Select the file(s).
  2. Click Rename (or select it from the shortcut (right- click) menu, or the File > Operations menu). You are prompted for the new name.
  3. Enter the new name for the item and click OK.

If you selected multiple files, you are prompted to rename the next file.
