Changing the host name or address

Every system (computer) on the Internet has an official host name and IP address. To connect to an FTP site, you must find out the official name or address of the site.

For example, to get the name or address of a popular FTP site, use a search engine such as Google.com or Yahoo.com to search for the name. Or, try replacing the "www" portion of the organization's URL with "ftp", for example replace www.progress.com with ftp.progress.com. Or simply call the company and ask for the name of their FTP site.

Or, if you want to connect to an FTP site maintained by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), your ISP will provide you with an FTP name or address that looks something like: ftp.wsftpnet.com or 156.50.3.1.

  1. In the toolbar, click Connect to open the Site Manager.
  2. Select the site in the Sites list.
  3. Click Edit. The Site Options dialog appears.
  4. In the Host Name box, edit the host name or IP address.

This is either a fully qualified Internet host name or IP address .

Note: You can also access the Site Options dialog by right- clicking on the site's tab and selecting Properties.
