WS_FTP Synchronize Overview (WS_FTP Professional)

The WS_FTP Synchronize Utility lets you synchronize (mirror) two different directories (local and remote, local to local, or remote to remote). Use synchronize features to automatically keep your remote sites up-to-date by copying in new items and deleting old items, or by deleting items that have been removed from the source directory.

Synchronize settings are saved in control files with the .ctl extension. After you have configured a control file, you can use the settings without selecting options for the job. Control files from previous versions of WS_FTP Synchronize will work in this version.

WS_FTP Synchronize operates in four modes:

  • Synchronize Location 1 to Location 2 - This mode updates Location 2 so that it includes all the files and subfolders in Location 1.
  • Synchronize Location 2 to Location 1 - This mode updates Location 1 so that it includes all the files and subfolders in Location 2.
  • Synchronize both Location 1 and Location 2 - This mode makes each location match the other by copying the newest version of Location 1 files to the Location 2 and by copying the newest version of Location 2 files to Location 1.
  • Customized mode - This mode lets you set the actions you want the utility to perform when files have a specific status.
Note: You cannot use OpenPGP mode with the Synchronize Utility. If you use a OpenPGP-enabled site with Synchronize, be aware that the files will not be encrypted.
