The Device Properties - Actions and Action Policies property allows you to assign an action or action policy to the selected device. Actions are designed to perform a task as a device or a monitor state change occurs. Action Policies allow you to group or sequence multiple actions together for use on the device. When a device enters the state specified in the action, the action fires a specific task. Although actions and action policies are managed from the Actions Library and Action Policies Library, you can also access both libraries from this device property in order to create a new action or action policy. For more information, see Using Actions and Action Policies.

To apply an action policy to the device:

  1. Click Apply the following Action Policy.
  2. Click the list and select the action policy to apply.
  3. Click Save. The Save confirmation message displays.
Note: You can access the Action Policies Library from Manage Action Policies in order to update an existing action policy or create a new action policy. If you make changes to the actions in a policy, the changes are applied to all of the devices and monitors that use that particular policy.

To apply an action to the device:

  1. Click Apply individual Actions.
  2. Click Assign. The Action Builder wizard appears; you can choose to add an action from the Action Library or create a new action.
  3. Follow the directions in the Action Builder wizard.
  4. Click Select an action from the Action Library.
  5. Click Finish at the end of the wizard. The action is applied to the device.
  6. Click Save. The Save confirmation message displays.
Note: Actions can be assigned to a device as a whole or to each of the active monitors configured on that device. For more information, see Using Device Properties - Active monitors or Using Device Properties - Passive monitors.
