A device template is made up a role and a sub role. From the Device Templates library, users can utilize existing or create new Roles or Sub Role to define devices based on information collected during discovery. For example, with these rules, it is possible to identify and define any network device found during discovery i.e., Users can define how WhatsUp Gold recognizes a Cisco Switch or a Windows Server etc.

  • Device Role. A device can have only one primary role
  • Device Sub Role. A device can have multiple sub roles
  • Roles and Sub Roles Library. Create, store, and re-use default role configurations and monitor lists. (Monitor lists are activated as part of the Start/Update Monitoring process.)

Manage roles

  • Add New Role. Create a custom role from scratch. (Create in wizard)
  • Add New Sub role. Create a custom sub role from scratch. (Create in wizard)
  • Edit. Edit an existing role or sub role. (Open in wizard)
  • Copy. Use an existing role or sub role as a template for your customizations.
  • Delete. Remove a role or sub role model definition from the library.
