ICMP Types report reveals the top ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) messages and errors for network interfaces associated with the device hosts you specify for the selected interval.

These reports are useful for identifying periods where your network is flooded with ICMP ping packets due to aberrant IP network clients or deliberate network activity that tries to swamp network resources or bandwidth capacity.

Understand column data

The default view of each report contains a grid with the following columns:

  • ICMP type. ICMP message type (for example, Echo Request). Others indicates ICMP types not included in the top n.
  • Bytes. Number of bytes received with that error during the selected period.
  • Bit Rate. Average bit rate, in total bits per second (bps).
  • Byte Percentage. Percentage of ICMP error type compared to other ICMP errors during the selected period.
