To access this dialog box:

Select HOSTS > Add Host > SMTP (Outgoing email).

When you create the host, you can set the following properties. To set additional properties, edit the host.

To configure SMTP hosts to encrypt the traffic between MOVEit Automation and the SMTP host, select the Secure Connection with TLS check box. The option to Ignore TLS Certificate errors is then active.

Note: The host's properties page shows the configured settings for each property area. To view all possible settings, click Edit.

SMTP Host Field

Description

General

Friendly Name

A name for the host. The name you specify appears in the MOVEit Automation user interface.

Description

Optional. Description of the host. This field is informational only, and does not affect the operation of the host.

Hostname/IP Address

The full hostname (example: MOVEitstdnet.com) or IP address (example: 192.168.12.14) of the remote server.

Port

Port number of the remote server on which to connect.

The default port number is 25.

Authentication

Select Legacy or OAuth (2025.1, or later)

Legacy

Username/Password: Authentication credentials. The SMTP Server username and password.

OAuth

Select type Microsoft Office 365 or Custom

Microsoft Office 365
  • Username: Username of the user whose mailbox you want to connect to.
  • Client ID: The Client ID for the OAuth client.
  • Client Secret: The Client Secret for the OAuth client.
  • Tenant ID: A globally unique identifier (GUID) that is different from your organization’s name or domain.
Custom
Note: Microsoft Office 365 users should select Microsoft Office 365. This is the default selection and will auto-populate the required fields. Use the Custom option for other email providers using OAuth authentication with Client Credentials Flow support.

The Microsoft Office 365 tenant administrator must register and set up an OAuth application in O365. For more information, see Authenticate an IMAP, POP or SMTP connection using OAuth.

From Address

The email address or name and email address from which messages and attachments are sent through this server. It must be a valid email address, or in the format 'Name<email@example.com>'.

Secure Connection with TLS

Select to secure the SMTP connection with TLS.
Note: A secure TLS connection is required to connect to the Office 365 SMTP host using OAuth authentication. TLS is automatically enabled during configuration

Ignore TLS Certificate errors

Optional. Select to ignore TLS Certificate errors.

Test

Click to test your connection.

Note: When MOVEit Automation is dealing with busy email servers or large numbers of recipients, tasks may run significantly longer than normal. To ensure that MOVEit Automation does not have to wait for each message to be sent, you can install a local SMTP relay server which will queue up messages and send them to your production email servers when they are better able to accept them.
