While you have the ability to work with monitors to a degree from the device list/map view or device properties, the Monitors Library is the central location for managing monitors in WhatsUp Gold. From here, you can create new monitors, edit existing monitors, create copies of existing monitors, and remove monitors from the application. This interface also allows you to test the configuration of monitors in the library, import trap definitions to the passive monitor library, and search for a monitor within the grid.

Select Libraries > Monitors from the SETTINGS menu to access the Monitors Library. Here, you'll see the grid is divided into three collapsible sections representing the three types of monitors available for use: Active, Passive, and Performance. For each monitor in the library, the following information is displayed:

  • Name. The name given to the monitor when initially configured by the user or assigned by WhatsUp Gold.
  • Type. Indicates if the monitor is active, passive, or performance.
  • Description. The description of the monitor when initially configured by the user or assigned by WhatsUp Gold.
  • Devices using this monitor. The number of devices which have the specific monitor assigned. The device counts displayed in this column are hyperlinked and, when clicked, launch the Monitors Applied full page report.

Use the following controls to manage the contents of the Monitors Library:

  • Click the Add icon, then select a monitor type to launch the applicable monitor type selection dialog.
  • Select any monitor in the grid, then click the Edit icon to launch the configuration dialog for that monitor, make changes as needed, and click Save.
  • Select any monitor in the grid, then click the Copy icon to create a duplicate which can be used as a template to configure a similar monitor.
  • Select any monitor in the grid, then click the Remove icon to delete it from the Monitors Library. Please note, removing a monitor from the Monitors Library also removes it from the devices to which it was assigned.
  • Select any monitor in the grid, then click the Test button to launch the Test dialog for that monitor.
  • Click the Import button to launch the Import trap definitions dialog.
