Choose your starting device set

Use the controls provided as needed to specify the identifying information WhatsUp Gold should use to attempt to discover network devices:

  • Single device, multiple devices, IP ranges, or subnets. Select this checkbox and enter identifying information to include in the starting set. You can enter any combination of single IP addresses, IP address ranges, subnet ranges, and/or host/DNS names.
  • Gateway IP. Select this checkbox to include the default gateway IP address for the WhatsUp Gold server into the starting set. Progress recommends expanding the starting set with a seed scan if you want to use the gateway IP to discover your network.
  • Local subnet. Select this checkbox to include the local subnet address range(s) for the WhatsUp Gold server into the starting set.
  • AWS devices. Select this checkbox and click Select regions to specify the geographic locations in which to scan for Amazon Web Services devices. Please note, for the discovery and monitoring of AWS network devices, only virtual machines and load balancers are supported.
  • Azure devices. Select this checkbox to include Microsoft Azure devices into the starting set. Please note, for the discovery and monitoring of Azure network devices, only virtual machines and load balancers are supported.
  • Cisco Meraki controlled devices. Select this checkbox to include Cisco Meraki controlled devices into the starting set.
  • Use host file. Select this checkbox and click Browse to navigate to and select a host file containing identifying information to consider in the starting set. For additional information about using a host file in Discovery, please see Host File Format.
  • Monitored devices. Select this checkbox and click Select groups to specify existing monitored device groups to rescan for new and/or updated information.
