Device Group Access Rights (DGAR) allow control over which users/user groups have read and write permissions to WhatsUp Gold Devices and Groups. Select Users & User Groups from the SETTINGS menu to access the Device Group Access Rights interface. By default, Device Groups Access rights are disabled.
The following actions can be performed within the Configure Device Group Access Rights dialog:
- Enable/Disable Device Group Access Rights using the On/Off toggle control.
- Choose a device group for which you'd like to modify access rights using the device group selector control.
- Locate individual users or user groups that have been added to the selected device group using the Search entry field.
- Add an individual user or user group to the device group selected by clicking the Add icon.
- Remove access rights from an individual user or specific user group for the selected device group by clicking the Delete icon.
- Select any checkbox within the grid to enable/disable the specific access permission (column) for the user or user group (row).
While working with device and group permissions, it’s important to understand the rules they intend to enforce. Below is a detailed description of each permission available for selection when configuring Device Group Access Rights.
- Group Read. Users granted this permission can view the device list and map view of the assigned group(s). Device-specific information will only be visible in the device list and device card.
- Group Write. Users granted this permission can copy and move and modify groups. These users can also add new groups (which automatically detect and copy their parent group’s permissions) and add and remove membership-relationships to devices. Users can also add new devices to the selected groups and refresh and rescan devices from a group level. These users cannot delete a device.
- Device Read. Users granted this permission can view all device-specific information contained within Device Properties windows.
- Device Write. Users granted this permission can modify a device’s configuration,
copy, clone, and delete a device from the system.
- Apply to sub device groups. If a user or group has been assigned rights to a device group, when this option selected and applied, the rights will be applied to all subgroups under the selected parent group.
In the example below, the user (usera) has been granted Group Read and Write permissions to Group 1. By Applying to sub device groups, the Group Read and Write permissions will be applied to the Subgroups under Group 1 i.e. Group 1a, Group 1b etc. This check box is deselected once the dialog has been closed and reopened. But, if a new subgroup is added to the parent group, the permissions still applies to the newly added sub group.
