The Device Properties user interface is the central management/information point for any single managed device. It's the interface you leverage when bulk operations or group information (report data, for example) are not appropriate for your management task. Use Device Properties to apply changes, troubleshoot, and check configuration properties for any single device. The Device Properties panel is divided into the following three sections:
- Device Selection, Status, and Actions. The top section of the Device Properties user interface contains a device selector with which you can browse to a specific monitored device or choose a recently-viewed monitored device. Here, you can also add the selected device as a favorite, launch the Device Status report, reset the device, launch several applicable libraries, and perform device management actions.
- Device Overview. This section of the Device Properties interface presents extensive information about the selected device including a representative icon which reveals visual indicators of its current status, a toggle control for keeping device details current, and other device identification details. Please note, where applicable, you can click the hyperlinks provided to edit/configure device details. Additionally, the Device Overview section can be collapsed by clicking the arrow icon in the upper-left corner of the section.
- Device Configuration. The lower section of the Device Properties interface is
divided into the following categories. Using these tabs, you can control how your
device is monitored, managed, and represented within WhatsUp Gold.
- Monitors. This tab allows you to search for, browse to, apply, and configure active, passive, and performance monitors to the selected device. Monitor information can be displayed in a single view or by monitor type. You also have the ability to set up critical monitors, hide any disabled monitors from display, and enable the "smart grouping" feature which aggregates similar monitors together to enhance usability. The Monitors tab now presents additional information about each monitor on the device including any actions and policies applied.
- Polling. Here, you can adjust polling interval, target (address or hostname), and enable/disable maintenance mode. You can also configure a dependency chain for the device and view average lag time and poller description, if applicable.
- Actions. Using the Actions tab, you can view and edit device level actions and policies, view monitor level actions and policies, and view and edit the Implicit Action Policy. Please note, monitor level actions and policies can be edited using the Monitors tab.
- Credentials. This tab allows you to edit credentials currently assigned to the device or delete them from the device.
- Groups. Use this tab to view a list of device groups to which the selected device belongs as well as add the device to or remove the device from an existing device group.
