- Display Name. Enter a name for the role to be used for identification within the WhatsUp Gold user interface.
- Description. Describe the purpose for the role (optional).
- Notes. Provide any additional information about the role (optional). Please note, this field supports discovery percent variables.
- Role Icon. Click Change to customize the icon associated with this role. See below for additional detail.
- Source. Indicates if the role is the same as the built-in role (Default), a variant of the built-in role (Modified), or entirely user defined (Custom).
- Weight. Consider this weight or rank of precedence when deciding the most suitable role choice between two or more role matches.
- Set as Network Device. Enable this option to have WhatsUp Gold consider this a device that handles or directs network traffic and adds the appropriate performance and interface monitors to it.
- Set poll using host name. Enable this option to have WhatsUp Gold change default behavior to setup new network interfaces to poll using host name instead of using network address.
Please note, ensure the Enable Discovery Options checkbox is selected in the Discovery Scan wizard if you would like these settings to be considered when initiating a discovery scan.
You now have the ability to upload any image for use as a device icon on the map based on its assigned role directly from the Role Editor interface. To do so, first ensure you've accessed the Role Editor wizard with the role for which you'd like to change the icon selected in the Roles and Sub Roles Library.
- In the Role Editor wizard, click Change to launch the Change Role Icon dialog, then select the Uploaded Icons tab.
- Click
, then browse to and select a .svg or
.svgz image file. Your new icon now appears as an option in the role icon library.
CAUTION: Files must be less than 1MB in size to be successfully uploaded as icons to WhatsUp Gold. - Select the icon in the Change Role Icon dialog.
- Click Save.
Note: Custom icons are stored locally on the WhatsUp Gold server. They are
not backed up in the database. To retain your custom role icons after migrating the
database to another WhatsUp Gold server, copy the applicable .svg files to the target
folder on the new machine. By default, custom icon files are stored in the following
location:
C:\Program Files
(x86)\Ipswitch\WhatsUp\html\NmConsole\resources\Wug\images\device_icons.
