The Windows Performance Counter Monitor enables data collection from performance counters exposed by various Windows applications. This monitor can only monitor Windows applications and requires Windows credentials on the device for which you want to monitor Windows applications. Additionally, devices for which you want to monitor Windows applications must have the Remote Procedure Call and Remote Registry services enabled and running.

The Widows Performance Counter monitor is available in WhatsUp Gold Premium Edition. To update your license, visit the Customer Portal.

The Windows Performance Counter monitor requires the following credential:

  • Windows

Configure the Windows Performance Counter monitor using the following boxes:

  • Name. Enter a unique name for the performance monitor. This name displays in the Monitor Library.
  • Description. (Optional) Enter a short description for the performance monitor. This description displays next to the performance monitor in the Monitor Library.
  • Category. Enter the category to which the Windows performance counter you want to monitor belongs, such as Processor. Click browse (...) to select the Windows Performance Counter you would like to use in the monitor. The Performance Counters dialog appears.
  • Counter. Enter the specific performance counter in the category specified above for which you want to monitor, such as % Processor Time.
  • Instance. (Optional) If applicable, enter the specific instance of the performance counter specified above for which you want to monitor, such as _Total. Not all counters have specific instances, so this box may be left blank.
  • Click OK. The Add Windows Performance Counter Monitor dialog appears.
  • Click OK to save changes. The custom performance monitor displays in the Monitor Library list.
