Note:
The tenant can perform the steps in this phase.
Use this phase to move the data into PDC using the migration option you selected in MarkLogic Data Migration Phase 1 - Discovery and Planning. Copy, restore, or synchronize the content, then validate that the source and target stay aligned during the transfer.
Phase 3A — Flux copy topology
Use this phase to move the data into the target environment using the approach you selected in planning. Run Flux externally, then validate that the source and target stay aligned during the transfer.
The steps in this phase are:
- Choose the connection method—Use a connection string or PDC cloud authentication to reach the PDC MarkLogic REST application programming interface (API).
- Move the data in stages—Use batching and streaming to keep memory usage low, and run repeated passes to reduce the amount of data left for cutover.
- Run the final catch-up load—Use a top-off job before cutover to pick up late updates.
Phase 3B — Backup/Restore with journal archiving
Use this phase when you need a backup-based migration with a short final cutover window. Restore the source backup into PDC, replay the latest journals, and confirm that the target remains consistent before cutover.
The steps in this phase are:
- Take the full backup—Back up the source system to cloud storage and restore it into PDC.
- Ship and replay journals—Enable journal archiving on the source, ship journals, and replay them on PDC immediately before cutover.
- Keep the target consistent—Keep the target transactionally consistent to minimize data loss and shorten outage time.
Phase 3C — Simple backup/restore
Use this phase when you can pause writes long enough to take a final backup and restore it into PDC. Once the restore is complete, validate the data and bring the application back online.
The steps in this phase are:
- Pause application changes—Pause writes from the application to the source MarkLogic system.
- Back up and restore—Take a backup, transfer it, restore it, and verify the result.
- Bring the application back online—Point the application to PDC after the restore is complete.
