When you log on to Automate MFT for the first time, you will be prompted to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Prerequisites

To configure MFA, you must install an authenticator app on your smartphone or mobile device. Common authenticator apps include:
  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • Google Authenticator
  • Authy
  • Any other app that supports TOTP (Time-based One-Time Passwords) based on RFC 6238.

Multi-factor authentication setup

When you log on to Automate MFT for the first time, you will be prompted to set up a multi-factor device.
  1. Open an authenticator app on a trusted device.
  2. Click Add Account > Scan QR code. Point your camera at the displayed QR code.
  3. If you are unable to scan the QR code, select Manually enter key and follow the on-screen instructions to enter the provided key into your app.
  4. The authenticator app generates a temporary PIN for Automate MFT. This PIN is your verification code. Authenticator apps refresh the temporary PIN every 30 seconds.
  5. Enter the 6-digit verification code in the text box and click Continue.

MFA is required every time you log on to Automate MFT. Your MFA device is now synchronized with the Automate MFT service. All subsequent log ons will prompt you for a code in addition to your username and password. For more information see, Log on with multi-factor authentication.
