Quota Manager

The Quota Manager page allows you to configure maximum disk space allocations for installed modules, profiles in the Monitoring Center, and other components such as top chapters, investigation data, alerts, etc.

Overview

At the top of the page, the overview graph provides a visual summary of disk space distribution, including:

  • Current disk allocation - Overall usage across all quota items.
  • Allocated space by category - Breakdown of assigned disk space per category.
  • Unallocated space - Remaining free space available for allocation.
  • System - Reserved quota for system data.

Quotas

The table lists all quota items grouped by category (for example profiles, Monitoring Center – other, per-module categories).

Columns Explained

  • Name
The name of the quota item.

  • Retention Period
Indicates how long data is retained and available for investigation.

    • Depends on allocated disk space (more space = longer history).
    • Continuous profiles: No end time; data flows continuously.
    • Historical profiles: End time in the past; no new data added.
  • Disk Allocation (%)
Percentage of total disk space allocated to this item.

  • Quota
The allocated size for the item. To change the allocated size, edit this field.

  • Used % of quota
Percentage of allocated space currently used.

    • At 100%, oldest data is deleted and replaced with newer data. Allocation size remains unchanged.
  • Used
    Exact amount of space used.

  • Free
Remaining unoccupied space within the allocated quota.

Changing Quotas

To modify a quota:

  1. Select the desired unit and enter the new size in the Quota column.
  2. Validation feedback:
    • Valid quota: Input box turns green. The values in the Disk allocation and Used % of quota columns update accordingly.
    • Invalid quota:
      • Occurs if the value exceeds available unallocated space or is below the minimum required size.
      • Input box turns orange, and a warning icon appears. Hover over the icon for details.
      • Save button is disabled until all errors are resolved.

After changes:
Changes in quota allocations can be reviewed in the overview graph, which is updated to reflect new allocations.

Read-Only Items

Some rows may be greyed out (disabled) and cannot be edited:

  • Shadow profiles and historical profiles have static quotas.
  • After upgrading to Flowmon 13, an item may be Disabled if its original quota cannot be restored because of insufficient space. As a result, it is not collecting new data. To re-enable it, reduce the quota assigned to other items to free up space, then assign a new quota to this item.

Behavior when quota limits are exceeded

Some quota items are configured with a stop action to prevent uncontrolled disk usage. The system periodically checks whether each item reports its current size and whether that size exceeds the assigned quota.

  • If the item exceeds its quota for three consecutive checks, or fails to report its size for three consecutive intervals, the associated stop action is triggered.
  • Additionally, the system monitors overall free space on the data disk. If available space drops below 200 MiB, all registered stop actions are executed to prevent disk exhaustion.
