Note: The screen shots in the following procedure show the installation of the Local ODBC Client on a 64-bit Windows machine. The installation on a 32-bit Windows machine is similar.
-
Start the installer for OpenAccess SDK Local Client for ODBC and IP SDK by double-clicking the installation file:
-
oaodbclocal32_win_version_setup.exe for 32-bit environments
-
oaodbclocal64_win_version_setup.exe for 64-bit environments
where version is the version number of the release. Then, double-click the installation file.
Important: On Windows, when the User Access Control (UAC) is enabled, right-click the installation file and choose Run as Administrator.
When the Welcome window appears, click Next to continue.
-
-
On the License Agreement window, perform one of the following actions:
- Accept the agreement by clicking the appropriate option. Then, click Next.
- Do not accept the agreement and click Cancel to exit the installation.
-
The Product Registration window appears, prompting you for product registration information.

Type your name and your company name in the appropriate fields. Then, perform one of the following actions:
-
If you are installing a licensed product, type the serial number and key provided to you by Progress DataDirect.
-
If you are installing an evaluation product, type EVAL in the Serial field and leave the Key field empty.
When you are finished, click Next.
If you chose to install an evaluation product, a message appears confirming the length of the evaluation period. Click OK to continue.
-
-
The Custom Setup window appears. Choose your installation options.

a. Click one or multiple component icons to select the components to install. When you select a component, a description of the component appears in the Feature Description box.
b. To change the installation directory, click Change. A window appears allowing you to browse and select an installation directory. -
Click Next. Select the languages in which you will develop your IPs. By default, OpenAccess SDK 9.0 Local Client for ODBC and IP SDK is configured for all selected languages.
Note: If you clear the check box for a language, its template and services are not installed.

-
Click Next. The OpenAccess SDK for C/C++ window appears.
-
The OpenAccess SDK for C/C++ window prompts you to specify the service name to be used for the OpenAccess SDK SQL engine and a third-party SQL engine of your choice. Default settings are provided for both types of SQL engines.

-
Click Next. The OpenAccess SDK for Java window appears.

This window prompts you to specify the service name to be used for the OpenAccess SDK SQL engine, a third-party SQL engine of your choice, or both. By default, settings for both types of SQL engines are provided.
The installer automatically identifies the location of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) directory. If the JVM location cannot be found, the installation directory is displayed. If you want to use a different JVM directory, click Change and browse to the location of the directory; then, click OK.
The services for Java will not start unless a JVM can be located at the specified location. Refer to OpenAccess SDK Administrator’s Guide for information about using the OpenAccess SDK Management Console to set the ServiceJVMLocation service attribute after installation.
-
Click Next. The OpenAccess SDK for .NET window appears. If you will be developing an IP using the Microsoft .NET Framework, you must provide information for the field on this window.
Note: The ADO.NET Client is currently supported only with OpenAccess SDK 8.1.

This window prompts you to specify the service name to be used for the OpenAccess SDK SQL engine.
-
Click Next. The Ready to Install the Program window appears, allowing you to go back and review your choices before proceeding. If you are ready to install, click Install.
If the installer encounters any Windows registration errors, it will not install OpenAccess SDK Local Client for ODBC and IP SDK. A message is displayed that tells you to examine the installation log file oaodbclocal.log (see Installation Log File). The installation is rolled back and no software is installed.
-
The InstallShield Wizard Completed window appears when the installation has been completed successfully. Click Finish.
-
Test your OpenAccess SDK environment by establishing a connection from the Local ODBC Client to a sample data source set up during installation. See Installing on Linux and UNIX for more information.
