Note: The ADO and ADO.NET clients are currently available only in OpenAccess SDK 8.1. However, they are compatible with the OpenAccess SDK 9.0 server.

To install the ADO.NET Client on your local drive:

  1. Follow the download instructions on the Progress DataDirect Web site to download the installation file to a directory on your local machine.

    • oanet32_win_version_setup.exe on a 32-bit machine

    • oanet64_win_version_setup.exe on a 64-bit machine

where version is the OpenAccess SDK version number.

  2. Navigate to the directory you defined in Step 1 and double-click the installation file.

Important You must run the Setup program from the machine on which you are installing the product. You cannot run the Setup program from a network location to install the product on your local machine.

Important On Windows, when the User Access Control (UAC) is enabled, right-click the installation file and choose "Run as Administrator".

  3. Start the ADO.NET Client installer. When the Welcome window appears, click Next to continue. The License Agreement window appears.

Note: You can exit the Setup program at any time by clicking Cancel, or return to the previous window by clicking Back.

  4. On the License Agreement window, perform one of the following actions:

    • Accept the agreement by clicking the appropriate option. Then, click Next. The Custom Setup window appears.
    • Do not accept the agreement by clicking Cancel to exit the installation.
  5. The Custom Setup window allows you to install the online books and change the installation directory.

    a. To install the online books, click the drop-down arrow in the OnlineBooks icon and select This feature, and all subfeatures, will be installed on local hard drive. The red X disappears from the OnlineBooks icon.
    b. To change the installation directory from the default location of C:\Program Files\DataDirect\oadotnet90, click Change and select the new installation directory path. Then, click OK to return to the Custom Setup window.

  6. Click Next. The Ready to Install the Program window appears.

  7. Click Install to begin the installation.

  8. When the product files have been copied, the Setup Completed window appears. Click Finish to exit Setup.

  9. Test your OpenAccess SDK environment by establishing a connection between the OpenAccess SDK Client and the OpenAccess SDK Server. See Testing the ADO.NET Client Installation for instructions on testing your OpenAccess SDK environment.

For information on using the ADO.NET Client, refer to the OpenAccess SDK Administrator’s Guide.
