Note: The screen shots in the following procedure show the installation of OpenAccess SDK 8.1 Server on a 64-bit Windows machine. The installation on a 32-bit Windows machine is similar.
-
Start the installer for OpenAccess SDK Server. When the Welcome window appears, click Next to continue.
-
On the License Agreement window, perform one of the following actions:
- Accept the agreement by clicking the appropriate option. Then, click Next.
- Do not accept the agreement and click Cancel to exit the installation.
-
The Product Registration window appears, prompting you for product registration information.

Type your name and your company name in the appropriate fields. Then, perform one of the following actions:
-
If you are installing a licensed product, type the serial number and key provided to you by Progress DataDirect.
-
If you are installing an evaluation product, type EVAL in the Serial field and leave the Key field empty.
When you are finished, click Next.
If you chose to install an evaluation product, a message appears confirming the length of the evaluation period.
-
-
Click OK to continue. The Custom Setup window appears.

-
Choose your installation options. a. Click one or multiple component icons to select the components to install. When you select a component, a description of the component appears in the Feature Description box. b. To change the installation directory, click Change. A window appears allowing you to browse and select an installation directory.
When you are satisfied with your settings, click Next.
-
A window appears, prompting you for the service name and TCP/IP port to be used by the OpenAccess SDK Agent. The OpenAccess SDK Agent allows the OpenAccess SDK administrator to configure, manage, and monitor this OpenAccess SDK Server using the OpenAccess SDK Manager.

Note: The service name and TCP/IP port must be unique (not used by another service). If you do not specify a unique service name or a unique TCP/IP port, the installation will fail. No software will be installed.
-
Click Next. The Service Definitions window appears.

Select the languages in which you will develop your IPs. By default, OpenAccess SDK Server and IP SDK is configured for all selected languages.
Note: If you clear the check box for a language, its template and services will not be installed. To add the support after this installation is complete, you must uninstall OpenAccess SDK Server and IP SDK, and then reinstall it.
-
Click Next. The OpenAccess SDK for C/C++ window appears. If you will be developing an IP using C or C++, you must provide information for the fields on this window.

This window prompts you to specify the service name and TCP/IP port to be used for the OpenAccess SDK SQL engine and a third-party SQL engine of your choice. Default settings are provided for both types of SQL engines.
-
Click Next. The OpenAccess SDK for Java window appears. If you will be developing an IP using Java, you must provide information for the fields on this window.

You are prompted to specify the service name and TCP/IP port to be used for the OpenAccess SDK SQL engine, a third-party SQL engine of your choice, or both. By default, settings for both types of SQL engines are provided.
The installer automatically identifies the location of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). If this directory is not automatically found, the installation directory is shown. If you want to use a different JVM directory, click Change and browse to the location of the directory; then, click OK.
The services for Java will not start unless a JVM can be located at the specified location. Refer to the OpenAccess SDK Administrator’s Guide for information about using the OpenAccess SDK Management Console to set the ServiceJVMLocation service attribute after installation.
-
Click Next. The OpenAccess SDK for .NET window appears. If you will be developing an IP using the Microsoft .NET Framework, you must provide information for the fields on this window.

This window prompts you to specify the service name and TCP/IP port to be used for the OpenAccess SDK SQL engine.
-
Click Next. The Ready to Install the Program window appears, allowing you to go back and review your choices before proceeding. If you are ready to install, click Install.
If the installer encounters any Windows registration errors, it will not install OpenAccess SDK Server and will display a message that tells you to examine the installation log file (see Installation Log File). The installation is rolled back and no software is installed.
Note: If the installer has installed the OpenAccess SDK Server correctly, but the OpenAccess SDK Agent or the OpenAccess SDK data access service cannot be started, a message box appears. Click OK. The OpenAccess SDK software is correctly installed, but the configuration needs to be corrected in order to start the services. Refer to OpenAccess SDK Administrator’s Guide and OpenAccess SDK Troubleshooting Guide and Reference for more information about starting OpenAccess SDK services and using the troubleshooting tools for OpenAccess SDK Server.
-
The InstallShield Wizard Completed window appears when the installation has been completed successfully. Click Finish.
The installer sets the C/C++, Java, and .NET services as Manual, and starts them. If you want the services to restart automatically after restarting the system, you can set them to Automatic, or restart the services manually using the Management Console.

Test your OpenAccess SDK environment by establishing a connection between the OpenAccess SDK Client and the OpenAccess SDK Server. For instructions on testing your OpenAccess SDK environment, see Testing the Client Installation.
