Explanation

This article explains how to link concepts in a model using associative or hierarchical relationships (known as concept-to-concept relationships).

Assumptions

  • You have an existing model.
  • The model contains at least two concepts.
  • The concepts’ classes reside in the domain and range of at least one of your defined relationships.
  • You have the MANAGER, EDITOR, or CONTRIBUTOR role for the model.

Method

Linking with an associative relationship

  1. Open a model (in this example, Test Model), and click Open Master or open a task.
  2. On the left-hand navigation area, click a concept to open its details (in this example, Father).
  3. In the Details area, click the edit button next to Related Concepts, or click Select a related concept.
  4. When the edit box appears: - Choose the desired relationship (in this example, gives gift to). (1) - Type the name of the target concept in the text area, and select the appropriate one from the choices shown (in this case, Brother). (2) - Click the green check box. (3)

Linking with a hierarchical relationship

  1. Open a model (in this example, Test Model), and click Open Master or open a task.
  2. On the left-hand navigation area, click a concept to open its details (in this example, Father).
  3. In the Details area, click the edit button next to Narrower Concepts, or click Select a narrower concept.
  4. When the edit box appears: - Choose the desired relationship (in this example, has offspring). (1) - Type the name of the target concept in the text area, and select the appropriate one from the choices shown (in this example, Sister). (2) - Click the green check box. (3)

Outcome

You will see the new information in the Details view of the concept. If you click to view the concept Father, it shows one set of relationships to Brother and Sister.

If you click to view the concept Brother or Sister, they show the inverse set of relationships to Father.
