The transition process is intuitive; it chooses the appropriate type of transition to perform based on answers to the following questions:

• Is the database a source or a target database?
• Is the database online or offline?
• Has a prior transition for the database completed successfully?
• Is the Replication server or agent running?
• Has a replication failure just occurred?
