A file descriptor is an identifier assigned to a file when it is opened. There is a system limit on the number of file descriptors. If you have insufficient file descriptors, you might not be able to start a broker or connect a new client to an existing broker. See OpenEdge RDBMS Limits for details on calculating the number of file descriptors required.
