You can transition a license from an Service Provider License Agreement (SPLA)d license without losing or changing the existing configuration. First, you deactivate the existing license on the LoadMaster or through Kemp 360 Central. Then, re-license the LoadMaster using LoadMaster 360.

Note: This is a legacy conversion process for SPLA licenses. If you are converting from a standalone Trial, Perpetual, or Metered Enterprise License Agreements (MELA) license, you can follow the new (and improved) process, which is described in the following section: Add and convert a LoadMaster.

Refer to the relevant section below for detailed instructions to help you to transition licenses.

Note: Do not reboot the LoadMaster until the device is fully added to LoadMaster 360.

How to transition a High Availability (HA) pair

To transition a HA pair of LoadMasters, follow these steps:

  1. Deactivate the existing license on the active device (HA1).
  2. Add the individual IP address of the active LoadMaster (HA1) to LoadMaster 360 and apply a pooled license.
  3. Wait for the active device (HA1) to be added to LoadMaster 360. LoadMaster 360 automatically recognizes it as an HA pair.
  4. When LoadMaster 360 shows the active device (HA1) as healthy, initiate a failover by setting the Switch to Preferred Server option in the LoadMaster to Prefer Second HA, or reboot HA1 if the option is set to No Preferred Server.
  5. Wait until HA2 has taken over traffic, as indicated by the HA health status in the LoadMaster. Once HA1 is in standby mode, reboot it to ensure the new license settings are correctly applied.
  6. Next, deactivate the license on the new active unit (HA2), then repeat the steps to add the LoadMaster to LoadMaster 360 and apply a pooled license. Wait until both devices appear as a single HA pair under the original name you provided during the initial LoadMaster 360 setup.
  7. Finally, set the Switch to Preferred Server option to Prefer First HA or reboot HA2 to allow HA1 to become the active unit again. Once HA2 is in standby mode, reboot the device.
Note: For step-by-step instructions on how to deactivate the existing LoadMaster license and apply a new pooled license using LoadMaster 360, refer to the following sections.
