Compatibility

  • Version 12.2.6 and higher is compatible with the following modules:
    • Flowmon ADS: v12.1.0

    • Flowmon DDoS Defender: v5.5.1

  • If an incompatible version of ADS, APM, APM Probe or IDS Probe module is installed on a Flowmon appliance, it will be stopped and disabled during the update to Flowmon version 12.2.x. When a compatible version of the module is installed, the module will be automatically enabled and started again. WARNING: Some modules may not be released yet. Ensure all the required modules are available prior to initiating the update process to version 12.2.6.

Installation requirements

  • The Flowmon appliance must be updated to version 12.0.0 or newer before you can apply this update.
  • Before you start updating the Flowmon appliance to version 12.2.x, ensure the installed modules meet the following version requirements:
    • Flowmon ADS: v12.0.0
    • Flowmon APM: v5.0.0
    • Flowmon APM Probe: v5.0.0
    • Flowmon APM TG: v2.6.0
    • Flowmon DDoS Defender: v5.5.0
    • Flowmon Packet Investigator: v12.0.0
    • Flowmon Packet Investigator Probe: v12.0.0
    • Data Retention: v4.4
    • IDS Probe: v3.1.0
  • If any version is older than the ones specified above, the update will not successfully complete.

Installation

  1. Download the package from the support portal. Do NOT unpack it.
  2. Log in to the Configuration Center on your Flowmon appliance.
  3. Select the Versions tab.
  4. Click Import Package and select the update file you downloaded in step 1.
  5. Wait until a notification is displayed informing you that the update was successful.
  6. Some versions may require a reboot of the device to complete the update process. If so, it will be mentioned in the IMPORTANT INFORMATION section.

Important information

  • Forward compatibility of exported configuration is guaranteed throughout all releases with the same major version number. Between major versions, the last stable release of the previous major version is guaranteed to export configuration that is compatible with the next major version. Example: For Flowmon 12 releases, configuration export from any 12.2.x release will be compatible with any future 12.3.y release. For upgrades between major versions, if 11.1.13 is the last version released for Flowmon 11 then configuration exported from this version is compatible with Flowmon 12 and can be imported.
  • When updating from Flowmon version older than 12.2.0, the device will be rebooted during the update process.
  • Reporting functionality has been removed from the Monitoring center. You can now only access reports using the Dashboards and Reports module.

Issues fixed

  • 189714,190735,192509: Profiles that are older than the "All Sources" profile can be edited and saved.
  • 191104: LDAP authentication works correctly, even if the CN attribute is not returned by the LDAP server.
  • 192167: LDAP authentication works correctly if there are defined groups in the custom group DN.

  • 188936: Import of an alert with a non-existing source is no longer causing sources to be deleted.
  • 188204: Removing the monitoring interface from the virtual appliance no longer causes continuous restarts of other monitoring ports.
  • 188328: Alerts character encoding has been fixed.
  • 187438: The shadow source profile start time is now correct when importing XML for disaster recovery.
  • 187568, 187659, 187836: Monitoring ports are available and presented properly in the User Interface (UI).
  • 187289, 187735: Monitoring ports work properly on KVM virtual appliances.
  • 187227: Syslog server usage in Distributed Architecture (DA) is no longer causing DA configuration mismatch.
  • 187227: DA configuration mismatch is fixed when there are at least two source groups and a new user role with these profiles assigned.
  • 187267: If data is not available for the entire selected time interval of a top chapter, the time interval shown is adjusted and a notification is displayed in the widget’s footer.
  • 185955: Profiles backup to an external server works properly again.
  • 182864: LDAP UI in Flowmon Configuration Center (FCC) works properly for a large number of LDAP groups.
  • 182864, 182864: Flowmon works properly with VDS LDAP server.
  • 189226: sFlow collection works properly in DA and no longer causes a new flow source to be repeatedly added.
  • 189759: Fixed an issue that caused DA configuration mismatch and the system disk to fill up on the proxy unit when LDAP authentication was enabled.

  • 184907: Flow Sources configuration inconsistencies between DA units are no reported anymore after an update from older minor/major versions with DA.
  • 184907: Autonomous Systems configuration inconsistencies between DA units are not reported anymore.
  • The Show-in-Time chart is no longer empty when generated from multiple distributed architecture source groups and one source group has no data for the selected profile.

  • 184907: Distributed Architecture configuration is correctly updated and DA units are properly sending data to TPM unit after the update.
  • 185410: A profile properly collects data when created in subtenant.

What's New

  • It is possible to set a timeout for TACACS+ authentication queries.

  • It is possible to set a timeout for LDAP authentication queries.

  • Support for dot1qVlanId (243) and postDot1qVlanId (254) IPFIX fields from Cisco devices has been added.

Issues fixed

  • 179942: Old source group XML is deleted from the database when deleting a source group, so this invalid XML no longer causes a Distributed Architecture consistency issue.

What's New

  • A table widget for Topology allows you to visualize your topologies in a customizable table giving you a holistic overview of critical Topology parameters.

  • Colors and logos in the User Interface (UI) have been updated to reflect Progress branding.

  • VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, and QEMU tools have been integrated into the Flowmon product. There is no need to manually install the VA tools package. Old installed Flowmon VA packages will be uninstalled.

  • Flowmon appliance remote access (SSH and HTTPS) is protected by FIPS 140-2 approved security algorithms (cipher suites) only. This may require and updated version of client software to access Flowmon web based interface or CLI.

  • The Flowmon Probe can identify the QUIC protocol (the transport layer for HTTP/2 and HTTP/3) and get SNI from QUIC traffic.

  • Distributed Architecture users and roles configuration distribution improvement: Prevented inconsistencies that were caused by wrong user or role IDs.

  • Distributed Architecture package installation process improvement: Finished installation is announced for each DA unit by status icon and notification message.

  • Distributed Architecture package installation process improvement: When there is an unassigned unit in the DA topology the installation of new packages is prevented.

  • Distributed Architecture logs download improvement: It is now possible to download logs asynchronously by initiating the download from a remote unit and picking up the logs later.

  • Distributed Architecture logs download improvement: It is possible to select DA units to download logs from.

  • Package update process improvement: Installation progress is shown during an update.

  • Package update process improvement: During an update (a Flowmon package or module being installed) it is not possible to reboot or shutdown to prevent possible inconsistencies.

  • Configurable session timeout to log out inactive users.

  • Configurable REST API access token and REST API refresh token timeout.

  • 179069: Fixed Show in time chart displaying DNS statistics.

  • 178871: Shadow profile start time is now correct when using disaster backup and recovery.

  • 178871: Profile channels are not missing after disaster backup and recovery.

  • 176681: Filter by subnet returns valid results when there are overlapping subnets.

  • 180324: The Show in time chart is not broken anymore for channel filters with brackets at the beginning or end.

  • 176840: When a CSV export is aggregated by days, it now correctly summarizes data for entire days.

  • 176210: There is no UI error when the SNMP field ifAlias is not provided during source refresh.

  • 176208: The User Guide has been fixed - line breaks were removed from the FCC Monitoring ports filter syntax samples.

  • 176100: Support for TLS_RSA cipher suites has been removed from TLS-enabled listening ports.

  • 175090: Temporary configuration files are automatically removed after some time, preventing the uncontrolled growth of directory size.

  • 174801: The issue of data availability for TOP chapters with some aggregations has been fixed.

  • 173518: Source MAC Address is present in flows representing TLS and SMB traffic.

  • 172591: Active Devices functionality is no longer run on the DA proxy unit, so there are no related errors in the log.

  • 174353: Reboot and check disk works for all relevant partitions (ext3, ext4 and xfs).

  • 168495: IP configuration for monitoring ports is not enabled for Flowmon Probe PRO models.

  • 168174: The User Guide has been updated to state that Flowmon does not support host certificate keys with passphrase protection.

  • 160180: Users are automatically logged out after changing password with configuration XML import.

  • 160180: Session timeout and REST API token lifetime are now configurable in GUI.
