Windows clients can have difficulty reconciling illegal (for NTFS) characters in filenames when downloading from MOVEit, which has fewer restrictions for filenames.
Options in this section restrict the characters allowed in file and folder names.
Default is No restrictions except for the following:
- Not allowed in file names: front slash (
/) back slash (\) - Not allowed in folder names: front slash (
/), back slash (\), quotes ("), pipe symbol (|)
Options: Make a selection and click Update Character Restrictions.
- Do not restrict file and folder names
- Allow only valid Windows NTFS characters in file and folder names
- Use a custom defined character set.
Unsupported Characters Can Result in Upload Failure
If a user attempts to upload/copy/move/rename a file or folder that contains illegal characters, an error will be returned. Enabling character restrictions on a folder will also check all existing immediate files/sub folders for illegal characters, and if found, will prompt the user if they want to automatically replace illegal characters (this is for existing files/folders only, there is no auto replacement for incoming files/folders.
When defining a custom character set, folder and file names can be configured to allow or deny matching characters.
Complex Characters, Emojis and Differences between MySQL Database and MS SQL Server
MySQL does not readily support complex characters such as emojis. By default, it limits users to only the BMP (Basic Multilingual Plane) character set. The BMP does not include emojis and other complex characters.
