Progress Data Cloud is a managed hosted platform that provides access to Semaphore, MarkLogic Server, and MarkLogic Data Hub services. Because these products are in the cloud, local installation, configuration, monitoring, security, and upgrades are not needed.
This guide covers the Progress Data Cloud Platform and how to access the services that your organization purchased.
Semaphore
Semaphore generates metadata that transforms complex enterprise information into meaningful, actionable intelligence to power new business opportunities and foster growth. In Progress Data Cloud, Semaphore includes Semaphore Studio, Classification Language Service, Classification Precision and Recall Service, Semantic Enhancement Server, Concepts Server, and Reconciliation Server.
Semaphore Studio
Semaphore Studio is the base service and the main way you use Semaphore. Semaphore Studio includes:
- Knowledge Model Management (KMM): An editor to create and govern knowledge models.
- Document Analyzer: A toolkit to access Classification Language Service.
- Semantic Enhancement Service Software Development Kit: A toolkit to access Semantic Integration Service.
Classification Language Service
Classification Language Service is a rules-based classification engine providing accurate metadata tagging of content in many languages.
Classification Precision and Recall Service
Classification Precision and Recall Service measures the quality of classification by accepting a dataset as a single ZIP file and returning precision and recall data as a single Excel file.
Semantic Integration Service
Semantic Integration Service (SIS) is a high-speed semantic provisioning service that exposes Semaphore knowledge models to downstream systems. It enables real-time access to concepts, terms, and relationships—supporting classification, navigation, and integration. Unlike the Concepts Server, SIS does not use MarkLogic Server and has a slightly reduced set of information that it can provision, when compared to Concepts Server. SIS is tightly coupled with Semaphore's Semantic Enhancement Server.
Concepts Server
Concepts Server provisions semantic information from knowledge models to downstream systems and user interfaces. Backed by MarkLogic Server, it enables real-time access to concepts, relationships, and metadata—supporting classification, enrichment, and intelligent UI behaviors. It powers scalable, API-driven semantic integration across enterprise applications. The Concepts Server requires MarkLogic Server Service.
Reconciliation Server
Reconciliation Server enables semantic mapping between disparate data models and sources by identifying similarities in metadata structures. It helps unify terminology, taxonomies, and ontologies, to improve semantic interoperability and enhance content integration across enterprise applications.
MarkLogic Server
MarkLogic Server is a document-based enterprise NoSQL multi-model database.
MarkLogic Data Hub
MarkLogic Data Hub is a set of tools and libraries used to quickly build an operational data hub on MarkLogic Server Service. Data Hub includes Hub Central, a graphical user interface designed for managing operational data hubs. MarkLogic Data Hub requires MarkLogic Server Service.
Semaphore for SharePoint Online
Semaphore for SharePoint Online is an interface that uses Semaphore Semantic Enhancement Server and Semaphore Classification Language Server to integrate with Microsoft Office 365 SharePoint Online. See Use Semaphore for SharePoint Online for further information.
