This section covers the aspects of creating and maintaining user accounts and service accounts. It also covers generating API Keys for service accounts and generating a report summarizing all users and their roles and permissions.

You can manage users and service accounts through the Users page.

Regular user versus service account

A regular user maps to a person. Such a user is allowed access to the Progress Data Cloud Interface. Regular users are either invited or they register themselves through the Sign-in page.

A service account maps to applications. A service account is allowed to connect with integration endpoints but is not allowed to access the Progress Data Cloud Interface. Use Create Service Account to create a service account and generate an API Key for it. Forward the API Key to the client-side application developer who requested the account. Though regular user accounts can have their own API Keys, Progress Data Cloud recommends using service accounts for applications. This design helps prevent personnel changes from affecting an application's access to the Progress Data Cloud Platform and services.

Invite User versus self-registration

Clicking Invite User lets you set up users with their exact roles so that, as soon as they register, they can immediately access the tenancy with their proper permissions. You may also invite a user from an unregistered domain without exposing the tenancy to every user in that domain. Additionally, you may add a contact email address for notifications. This email can be in a domain outside the tenancy domain. If you add a contact email address, a verification email is sent to the user. The user must verify the email address before notifications are sent.

Alternatively, you can let users who obtain the tenancy URL register themselves. Any attempted user registration autogenerates an email to the tenant administrators. Progress Data Cloud recommends that you configure default roles to expedite user access. Without default roles, every user who attempts to register themselves is denied access to the platform until a tenant administrator explicitly sets up their roles.

Role assignment

Clicking the The Pencil Icon associated with an account on the Users table accesses the Edit User sidebar, where you can assign roles to that account. This sidebar includes an editable Role Group that allows you to enable or disable roles.

Download User List

Clicking Download User List generates a User Permission Report for reviewing your current users and their corresponding role assignments.
