With Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enabled, you must provide both your credentials and a verification code generated by an authenticator app on your mobile device. This helps protect your account even if your password is compromised.

Prerequisites

  • WS_FTP Server is installed and configured.
  • WS_FTP Server Manager is accessible.
  • Users must install an Authenticator App, such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, on their mobile device.

Set up MFA using a QR code

You can set up MFA using one of the following two methods.

Set up MFA during log on:
  1. Log on to WS_FTP Server with your username and password.
  2. If MFA is not yet configured, the Setup Multi-Factor Authentication page will appear.
  3. Scan the displayed QR code using your preferred authenticator app.
  4. Enter the verification code generated by the app in the Verification Code field.
  5. Click Verify to complete the setup.
Set up MFA from the user interface:
  1. After logging on, locate the Set MFA option in the top-right corner of the WS_FTP Server user interface.
  2. Click Set MFA. A confirmation page will appear asking if you want to log out to set up MFA.
  3. Click Log out to confirm the action.
  4. Follow the steps in Set up MFA during log on above.

Use a Text Key (if you cannot scan the QR code)

If you cannot scan the QR code with your authenticator app, you can use the text key provided on the Setup Multi-Factor Authentication page.

  1. On the MFA setup page, click Can't scan the QR code? displayed below the QR code.
  2. Open your authenticator app and select the option to Enter a code manually.
  3. Enter the text key exactly as shown on the WS_FTP Server page.
  4. Complete the setup by entering the verification code generated by the app in the Verification Code field.
  5. Click Verify to finish the MFA configuration.
