To change the properties of a performance monitor on multiple devices at once:
- Select two or more devices or a device group.
- Right-click to launch the device management actions menu.
- Select Edit Devices > Monitors > Performance Monitor Properties to launch the Performance Monitor Properties dialog.
- Choose the performance monitor to modify from the list provided.
- Enable the checkbox(es) applicable to the performance monitor property or properties to be modified, then use the controls provided to modify the corresponding settings as needed. Please note, that the specific properties displayed are dependent upon the performance monitor selected.
- Click OK.
Important information about dependencies
While you have the ability to modify performance monitor properties independent of one another, there are some dependencies that exist that should be considered before making changes:
- If you change the Protocol, then your ability to modify other performance monitor properties and/or settings depends on the new protocol you've selected. Example: The value for Timeout and retries can only be changed if SNMP is the selected protocol.
- You are limited to the All Interfaces option if VMware or Hyper-V is the selected protocol when making changes to the Data collection property for the Interface Utilization monitor.
- The Determine uniqueness by property can be only be changed if SNMP or WMI is the selected protocol.
- All performance monitor properties can be modified if Protocol is NOT selected. However, any changes to properties that are not applicable to the selected protocol will have no effect. Example: If a device's performance monitor is currently using WMI, a change to the Timeout and retries setting will have no effect on the monitor’s runtime behavior because the Timeout and retries property requires SNMP for the selected protocol.
- Dependencies also exist between properties that do not involve Protocol selection. Example: If you modify Determine uniqueness by, but do not modify Data collection, then any performance monitors configured to collect data for Specific Interfaces, Specific Disks, or Specific Memory could potentially generate errors at runtime if the previously selected values do not match anything based on the selected Determine uniqueness by option.
- If you do NOT select Protocol, but change the Interface Utilization Data collection type to Active Interfaces or Custom Active Interfaces, those selections are treated as if All Interfaces was selected for monitors that currently use the VMware or Hyper-V protocol.
Important: If you select Protocol and the monitor is currently configured to collect data for “specific” aspects, but you do NOT select Data collection AND the protocol represents an actual change from the protocol a device’s monitor currently uses, then the system changes the monitor’s Data collection type to the default in addition to changing the protocol. The default collection types are All CPUs, All Disks, and All Memory, except for the Interface Utilization monitor for which the default is Active Interfaces.
