This section provides procedures for upgrading OpenEdge MCP Server deployments while preserving existing profiles and supporting verified rollback. An unchanged profile configuration does not normally need to be regenerated during an upgrade.
Overview
This content covers upgrade procedures for both Linux and Windows PowerShell environments. The following upgrade scenarios are addressed:
- In-place upgrade of existing standard profiles
- Profiles using prompts and context enrichment
- Production bundles created with
mcpgen export --bundle prod - Rollback to the previous working deployment
Prerequisites
Before starting the upgrade process, ensure you have met all the necessary requirements:
- Linux system requirements: Ensure Docker,
unzip, and Python 3 are installed. - Windows system requirements: Ensure Docker Desktop or Rancher Desktop, and Python 3.11 or later are installed.
- Schedule a maintenance window for the container restart.
- Obtain the new distribution zip file appropriate for your host and server image.
- Retain the previous distribution zip and Docker image until rollback validation is complete.
- Document your deployment: Record the profile name, host port, OpenAPI source, at least one known read-only tool, and valid tool arguments for testing.
