This section provides guidelines for the case where policy requires you to modify the Windows Server password for the account that the MOVEit Transfer system (the Windows Server OS user that core services run under).
Note: For MOVEit Transfer, there are other user accounts that are used by the system and not by end users. Although not all MOVEit customers will use the same account in every location, they may be worth checking as well. These other users include the user that connects to a remote file store, and the user that runs the daily and nightly scheduled tasks.

Before You Begin: Ensure moveitsvc Password Not Locked or Disabled by Windows Server

Check the properties tab of the MOVEit Transfer user (moveitsvc) to ensure that the account is not in the Disabled or locked out states.

  1. From your Windows Server machine, open the Local Users and Groups application.
    For example, open a Windows Run dialog (Windows Key + R). Then type compmgmt.msc and press OK.
  2. Right click the moveitsvc and choose Properties.

    The moveitsvc Properties panel displays.

  3. Ensure the Account is Disabled and Account is Locked are not checked. (Before you attempt to change the MOVEit Transfer services password, these checkboxes must be cleared.)

Change the Windows Server Account Password

To change the local moveitsvc on Windows Server:
  1. From the Computer Management window in Windows Server, click Local Users and Groups, then select the moveitsvc user.
  2. Right click moveitsvc and then choose, Set Password.

    The Set Password for moveitsvc warning notice displays.

  3. Enter a new password and click OK.

    A success dialog box displays.

  4. Update MOVEit services and IIS Applications Pools to reflect the password change and ensure system functionality.
