Run a basic MOVEit Automation test

A basic MOVEit Automation test checks that the upgrade worked at the simplest level.

Before testing, disable the MOVEit Automation scheduler. Ensure that you understand how it is controlled and what to expect on service restart or reboot.
  • Log on to the user interface.
  • Check that the version of MOVEit Automation is the new version.
  • Check the basic indicators. For example, task list, host list, and reports.
  • Run a sample of test tasks that do not have production implications.
  • Test a sample of hosts using the Test button.
  • Verify any custom Java memory settings for Web Admin and reapply them if required, as upgrades may reset these values.

Run in-depth tests based on your test plan

An in-depth MOVEit Automation test checks your specific work flows and configuration.

Before testing, disable the MOVEit Automation scheduler. Ensure that you understand how it is controlled and what to expect on service restart or reboot.
  • Run tests that are specific to your environment or configuration. Refer to the test plan that you created before the upgrade. For more information, see Plan your upgrade and MOVEit Automation test plan considerations.
  • To test the scheduler, ensure that you have disabled any tasks that should not be run during this phase of testing. Only enable tasks that can be tested without impacting your production processes.

Promote to production

When you are satisfied that the system is working to your expectations:
  • For migration upgrades:
    • Ensure that the older version of MOVEit is not running. All MOVEit services must be disabled on the old server/s.
    • Make any required network changes to allow users to access MOVEit. Ensure that the same IP or hostname, firewall, or load balancing settings are applied to the new server so that it is accessible in the same way as the existing server.
  • Enable the scheduler and selectively re-enable tasks.
  • Clear the Start with Scheduler Disabled check box on the MOVEIt Config Utillity General tab. If you are upgrading a failover pair, you must do this on each server.
  • If the MOVEit services startup types is set to Manual, set it to Automatic.
  • Reboot to ensure that everything is restored as you expect.
  • Allow users to access MOVEit.
