To install on your local drive:

  1. Download the product zip file:

    • If you are installing an evaluation copy, download the product zip file from the Progress DataDirect Web site.
    • If you are installing a licensed copy, download the product zip file from the location provided by Progress DataDirect when you purchased the software.
  2. Unzip the files, maintaining the directory structure in the zip file, to a temporary directory, for example:

    C:\TEMP

  3. From Windows Explorer, navigate to this directory; then, double-click the Setup program.

  4. The Welcome window for the product appears. Click Next to continue. The License Agreement window appears.

Note: You can exit the Setup program at any time by clicking Cancel, or return to the previous window by clicking Back.

  5. Perform one of the following actions:

    • Accept the agreement by clicking the appropriate option. Then, click Next. The License Information window appears.
    • Do not accept the agreement by clicking Cancel to exit the installation.
  6. On the License Information window, make any changes to the company name; then, perform one of the following actions:

    • If you are installing a licensed copy of DataDirect Connect for ADO.NET, enter the serial number and key(s) provided to you by Progress DataDirect. You can install up to three individual data providers using the three key fields.

Note: If you purchased a Developer’s license, you must install the data provider on a machine that has Microsoft Visual Studio installed. If you create .NET applications with another .NET development tool, contact your sales representative for the appropriate license.

    • If you are installing an evaluation copy of the product (good for 15 days), enter EVAL in the Serial field and the Key field.

  7. Click Next. If you entered the correct data on the License Information window, the Browse for Installation Directory window appears.

If you entered incorrect data or left any of the mandatory fields blank, you receive an error message. Click OK; you are returned to the License Information window to correct the error.

  8. If your machine has Reporting Server (SSRS) or BIDS preinstalled then the following window appears. Data processing extensions in Reporting Services enable you to connect to a data source and retrieve data. They also serve as a bridge between a data source and a dataset. Click the checkbox to enable Data Processing Extensions.

Note: This screen does not appear if your machine does not have Reporting Server (SSRS) or BIDS preinstalled.

  9. The Browse for Installation Directory window allows you to change the installation directory from the default location. This is optional.

To change the installation directory, click Change and select the new installation directory path. Then, click OK to return to the Browse for Installation Directory window.

Note: If DataDirect Connect for .NET or an earlier version of DataDirect Connect for ADO.NET is already installed on your machine, you must install DataDirect Connect for ADO.NET 4.3 to a different directory. The two versions can exist together on the machine, but cannot be in the same directory.

  10. Click Next. On the Install Optional Components window, one or more of the following check boxes will be displayed. Some options are displayed only if you have installed multiple versions of Visual Studio on your machine. Select one or more options:

    • C# Code Examples: Installs the C# code examples. Each data provider has compiled code examples that can be copied and pasted into your applications. The code examples are shipped with a README text file that contains instructions for use.
    • Install Connect for ADO.NET Integration for Visual Studio 2015: Provides integrated tools for data access based applications developed with Visual Studio 2015.
    • Install Connect for ADO.NET Integration for Visual Studio 2017: Provides integrated tools for data access based applications developed with Visual Studio 2017.
  11. Click Next. The Ready to Install the Program window appears. Click Back to revise your choices, or click Install to continue with the installation. When you click Install, the DataDirect Connect for ADO.NET data provider and any other options you selected are installed.

  12. After you click Install, a separate VSIX window window appears. The program auto-detects the installed Visual Studio versions. You may choose to install extentions for one or both, as applicable. Click OK after you make your selection.

  13. After VSIX extensions are installed successfully, you see the following screen. Click Close to exit.

  14. When the installation finishes, the Setup Completed window appears. Click Finish to exit Setup.

If Visual Studio is not installed on your machine, a message appears on the Setup Completed window to remind you to run the Administration Tool after installing Visual Studio. See "Administration Tool" in Using the Program Group for more information.

A program group is created as part of the installation. See Using the Program Group for more information.
