What's in Automate MFT GA version (1.5)?

Progress® Automate MFT® GA version (1.5) was released on Oct 1, 2025. Automate MFT is a cloud-based Managed File Transfer (MFT) solution designed to streamline, secure, and automate file movement across diverse endpoints and environments. This first release delivers file transfer automation, with a focus on usability, security, and extensibility.

Task automation

Automate MFT introduces a single, flexible interface for creating tasks. Users can mix and match steps, filters, and conditions to suit complex workflows. Tasks can route files to multiple destinations based on file type, size, or other criteria, using filters and conditional logic (if/else/else if).

Hybrid cloud and agent-based architecture

Manage and report on your tasks in the cloud, with the freedom to decide where to run your tasks: in the cloud, or on your private network.

Sources, destinations, and filters

Automate MFT tasks can be configured with multiple file sources and destinations, enabling flexible and scalable file transfer workflows across various environments. Sources define where files are retrieved from, such as local directories, cloud storage, or remote servers accessed via protocols like SFTP, FTP, or HTTP/S, and users can apply file specifications (for example, *.doc, report_*.csv) to filter and select only the files relevant to the task. Destinations specify where files should be delivered after processing, and tasks can include multiple destinations to distribute files to several endpoints simultaneously. Intelligent filtering at both the source and destination level allows users to route files conditionally based on attributes such as file name, extension, size, or other metadata, all without requiring scripting or visual programming; for example, files ending in .pdf might be sent to one destination, while .zip files are routed to another.

Process steps

Automate MFT includes built-in steps for compressing and decompressing files, as well as PGP encryption and decryption.

Reusable library components and centralized management

Automate MFT leverages reusable library components, such as endpoints, authentication methods, schedules, and process steps, that can be centrally managed and applied across multiple tasks. This centralized approach streamlines configuration and maintenance, enabling users to define components once and reuse them as needed. By managing these elements in a single location, organizations benefit from consistent security policies, simplified updates, and easier troubleshooting.

Task versions

Automate MFT supports task version control. Up to 200 rolling versions are maintained per task. Additionally, users can save up to 100 named versions for documentation, auditing, or source control.

Task organization

To support efficient task organization, Automate MFT provides folders and tags. Users can group tasks into folders by vendor, project, stakeholder, or any custom category, making it easy to manage related workflows. Additionally, custom one-word tags can be applied across tasks and folders, enabling filtering and search capabilities for quick access and organization.

Reporting

Comprehensive reporting features include detailed logs of task runs, file activity, as well as downloadable audit logs. A dashboard provides real-time visibility into usage statistics, plan limits, and overall system health.

User management

User management allows administrators to add, invite, and assign user roles, with an owner role that cannot be removed.

UI & Usability

Automate MFT features a modern web interface with dark mode support, and basic cookie and privacy management to enhance the user experience.
