The Credentials Library stores login, community string, and database connection information in a central location for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Windows Management Instrumentation (Windows), ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), Telnet, Secure Shell (SSH), VMware, and AVVID XML Layer (AXL) connections used in Network Performance Monitor.

It is important to set up credentials for network devices and newly discovered devices with Network Performance Monitor. Credentials are configured in the Credentials Library and used in several places throughout the application. They can be associated with a single device using the Device Properties > Credentials option or with multiple devices using the Bulk Action > Credentials option.

To access the Credentials Library:

  1. Go to the Index tab, then navigate to Network Performance Monitor > Configuration and Settings > Credentials.
  2. Use the credentials options at the top of the workspace as needed:
    • Grouped by:. A default filter that displays the credentials on the dashboard by credential type. If you remove this filter, credentials are listed in one large group. We recommend leaving this filter.
    • Search box. Retrieves credential type(s) that match user search criteria.
    • Create New. Adds a new credential type to the library.

Each entry on the credentials workspace contains the following:

  • Options. Use the row menu option to edit, copy, or delete the selected credential type.
  • Name. The name of the credential type.
  • Description. An optional description that can be created to provide more information about the credential type.

To add credentials:

  1. Click Create New. The Select Credential Type dialog appears.
  2. Select and configure a credential type as required. Configuration boxes vary depending upon the selected type. Refer to the following for individual credential type descriptions and their specific configuration boxes.
