This topic describes how to upgrade MOVEit Transfer Web Farm using the existing servers while maintaining all data
Prerequisites
-
Review and understand the changes and differences applied to the version of the product you are upgrading to. It is best practice to review the Release Notes for each your existing and target version. Release Notes for all supported versions are available here: MOVEit Transfer
-
Review the Plan your upgrade topic in this guide.
-
Download the MOVEit Transfer installer package and activation code. See the following link for how to download the license file.
-
You should be confident in your backup strategy, and that you can restore your current environment with a recent set of data in a timely fashion.
-
There will be downtime for you and your users during the upgrade process. Consider the impact of the outage and your operational schedule.
To upgrade MOVEit Transfer Web Farm
- Except for Node 1, shutdown all MOVEit services on all Web Farm nodes using the MOVEit Transfer Config Utility. The database service, which is remote, should stay up. Services must be down to prevent interlock problems when updating software.
- After stopping all services, be sure to close the MOVEit Transfer Config program on all nodes before installing any software; if this program is not closed, your installations may require you to reboot the server.
- Starting with node 1, right click and run the MOVEit Transfer software installer
as Windows Server Administrator.注: Alternatively, you can run the installer in "Offline Mode" (which does not require Internet connectivity). To do this, use the command prompt with the
/Offlineoption, for example:"C:Users\Administrator\Desktop\MOVEit_Install.exe" /Offline重要: As the installer runs and performs an upgrade on a large installation, it may take a while and the status bar might not move for several minutes. Let the installer complete. - The MOVEit Installer detects that you are upgrading a Web Farm and provides an option to update the shared MS SQL database. On the first node only, choose Yes.
- On the License Information page, enter your licensing information. Your
installer may have pre-populated this information for you.
- If you use product activation, enter your 23-character activation code.
- If you use a license file, choose ‘Activate using a MOVEit license file’ and follow the prompts to load the license file you downloaded from the Progress Customer Portal.
- On the ‘Database Option’ page, choose what to do in case you had previously customized the MOVEit database schema, with items such as new tables or indexes. Progress does not recommend customizing your database. By default, the installer will remove these items. However, you can choose to maintain them on this page by checking the ‘Do not remove unexpected database elements’ checkbox.
- Follow the prompts to complete the upgrade.
- Inspect the settings using the MOVEit config utility, and pay special attention to the
Paths tab:
- Ensure that the current node is pointing at the remote DB.
- Ensure that the current node points to and can connect to the remote
file store.注: When using UNC paths for the remote file store, provide the user name string using the following syntax:
<Server-name>\<username>. For example:FileNode01\mywebfarmuser
- Perform a basic test on this node to make sure it has upgraded successfully. See the post-upgrade instructions for the quick test.
- After the basic test, shut down the MOVEit services on the node.
- Run the standard MOVEit Transfer software update program on the remainder of the nodes. Choose No when asked to update the database. (The upgrade action on the first node accomplished this task.)
- After upgrading each additional application node, perform the checks recommended above in steps 8 and 9 and then shutdown the MOVEit services on this node if there are more nodes to upgrade.
- Once all the nodes have been upgraded, you can restart all MOVEit services, including HA and the scheduler on all nodes.
- Move on to the Post upgrade section (below) for final testing.
Post upgrade
After the upgrade procedure is complete, post-upgrade/migrate you should perform post-upgrade tasks to verify that all data was imported and to test the system to ensure that all functionality is working as expected.
What to do if something goes wrong
When an issue arises in a migration, upgrade, or other install processes, consulting the install logs is a good way to begin the troubleshooting process. You may find enough information in the logs to resolve your issue. If you need assistance from our technical support team, they will ask for your install logs.
For information about how to locate install log files, see Locate MOVEit install logs.
