The following procedure steps present the standard workflow for installing WhatsUp Gold. For more information and additional details regarding specific installation options and advanced features, such as using a Distributed environment or using an existing remote SQL Server instance with WhatsUp Gold, make sure to review the latest WhatsUp Gold installation documentation available on the Progress Documenation website. Please note, the installation method selected will not affect the eventual WhatsUp Gold integration with NTA+.

To install WhatsUp Gold:

  1. Double-click the WhatsUp Gold installation appplication you downloaded from the Progress community site to launch the installer. The application will perform the necessary prerequisite checks to ensure installation can proceed, then extract all required installation files including any dependecies, such as .NET and SQL Server Express.
  2. Select your desired language from the drop-down menu provided, then click OK to proceed.
  3. Ensure the Standard installation option is selected. When this option is selected, WhatsUp Gold will be installed using default settings including a dedicated instance of SQL Server Express. Then, click Next.
  4. Review the License Agreement presented, select I accept the terms of the license agreeement, then click Next.
  5. Verify your license key has been prepoplulated in the applicable entry field of the License Information dialog, then click Next. Please note, if you require offline activation, refer to the applicable procedure steps found in the WhatsUp Gold installation documentation on the Progress Documenation website.
  6. Indicate if you'd like to keep the default SQL Server Administrator password or use a custom password. If you'd like to create your own, select the applicable radio button and enter and confirm your new password. Then, click Next.
  7. Select a certificate option for HTTPS binding. You can choose to use an existing certificate from either a certificate store or your local machine. Or, you can generate a self-signed certificate for use with WhatsUp Gold. Then, click Next.
  8. At this point, if your license includes the use of Log Management features, you'll be prompted to enter your Elasticsearch server information. If you plan on using Log Management, enter this information in the entry fields provided, then click Next. If you do not plan on using Log Management, leave these entry field blank and simply click Next. Please note, if you plan on using Log Management in the future, you have the ability to configure an Elasticsearch host within WhatsUp Gold following installation as well.
  9. Click Proceed to begin WhatsUp Gold installation.
  10. Once installation has completed, click Finish. An internet browser launches automatically displaying the initial WhatsUp Gold user interface where you'll be prompted to set your WhatsUp Gold Administrator Password.
  11. Click Set Password.
