Explanation

This article explains how to create classes to use with your Semaphore model. Classes are essential for defining relationships and helpful for bringing additional informational organization to a model.

Assumptions

  • You have an existing model.
  • You have the MANAGER, EDITOR, or CONTRIBUTOR role for the model.

Method

  1. Open a model (in this example, an empty model call Test Model), and click Edit Master or open a task.
  2. At the top, click the model menu (labelled Master or by the name of your task), and then in the GOVERN MODEL section click Structure.
  3. In the left-hand navigation area, click to expand Concept Classes (and click to expand any other classes that may exist), and then click the plus symbol by the class where you want to add a child.
  4. In the Create a new concept class dialogue: - Type a name for the class (in this example, Parent). - Choose a language for the class label (in this example, English (en)). - (Optional) Edit the URI for the class. - Click Save.

Once the class is created, there are several options in the Details pane that you may perform:

  • Change the preferred label or add a label in a new language (1).
  • Add metadata (such as notes and a description) (2).
  • Change the color used to represent the class in the Visualizer view (3).
  • See any relationships, labels, or metadata properties for which the class is a domain or range (4).
  • Set the class as default class (for all new concepts regardless of their parents) (5).
  • Set the class as abstract (for use in the FACTS module) (6).
  • Set related/broader/narrower concepts as an ordered list (instead of in alphabetical order) (7).

Outcome

You will see the new class or classes in the left navigation area, as well as details on the right. When you are in the edit Model view, you will be able to select a class when you create a concept and see classes assigned to existing concepts.
