Some recommended post-installation steps are as follows:
-
Change the default login name and password for SSH access. Log in to the device console (see chapter Access to the device console) and change the password for the flowmon user by using a sysconfig application.
-
Change the default password for web interface access. Log in to the Configuration Center and follow the instructions in the section User Settings.
-
If you have changed a hostname of your device, it is advisable to generate a new SSL Certificate. Follow the steps in the section Maintenance.
-
Set your timezone and NTP server in the Configuration Center (see the section Timezone) to adjust the time on your probe.
-
Probe only: In the default configuration, the probe exports NetFlow data on its built-in collector. If you wish to export data to a professional NetFlow collector (for example, the Flowmon Collector), change the monitoring port settings following the instructions in the section Monitoring ports.
Note: The built-in collector is limited by lack of disk space, slow hard disk operations, and lower CPU and memory performance in comparison to a specialized NetFlow collector. For achieving the best performance, we recommend using a professional standalone NetFlow collector (for example, the Flowmon Collector). -
If you use SNMP for supervising your network appliances, configure the SNMP daemon running on the probe. Follow the instructions in the section SNMP Daemon.
-
Initialize the built-in collector database by clearing the data storage using the Clear data storage button. This step irreversibly deletes all data in the database! Perform this step only after the first start of the collector or if you want to delete the database. Follow the instructions in the Built-In Collector section.
