Before you upgrade a PAS for OpenEdge instance and its deployed applications from OpenEdge Release 11.7 to 12, be sure to create a backup your existing PAS for OpenEdge instance and its deployed instances. You can do this by creating a zip archive of the root directory of the OpenEdge 11.7 instance. And if you are not using a source code control system, then Progress also recommends that you also create a backup of the entire project space.

After your backup is complete, upgrade all of your ABL Service projects that are created in Progress Developer Studio, and then create a new PAS for OpenEdge Release 12 instance. For details, complete the steps described in the following topics:
