Before You Begin (what you need)

Before you can proceed to the topic titled Scan the QR Code (Mobile Set Up) , ensure you have what you need to verify your identity using a third-party authentication app.

  • A personal mobile device

    A mobile device you have that can be used to identify you.

  • A supported authenticator application installed on your mobile device.

    If you do not have an authentication app on your mobile device, you will need to install it.

Note: After you install an authenticator app, you can register the authenticator app with MOVEit. For instructions on how to do this, proceed to the topic titled Scan the QR Code (Mobile Set Up)

Primary Task: Install an Authenticator App on Your Mobile Device

This section outlines steps needed to install an authenticator app on your personal mobile device.

Important: If you already have an existing authenticator app on your device, you can already begin to register your mobile device with MOVEit. For instructions on how to register your mobile device with MOVEit transfer using the app, proceed to the topic titled Scan the QR Code (Mobile Set Up) .
Note: No MOVEit account information will be needed to install a third-party authenticator app. The authenticator app uses your phone to generate a time-based code to identify you. MOVEit will prompt you for this time-based code at sign on.

Install the third-party app

  1. From your mobile device, open the app store.
  2. Search on "authenticator app"

    A list of apps displays.

  3. Choose from a supported authenticator app such as Google Authenticator. (For details, see the section in this topic titled Supported Mobile Device Authenticator Apps)
  4. Wait until your mobile device displays that your authenticator app is installed. Once installed, you can proceed to the next topic titled Scan the QR Code (Mobile Set Up) .

What is an Authenticator App?

Authenticator apps are third-party applications (non-MOVEit) and available from the app store associated with your particular mobile device. For example, Android OS users can find authenticator apps at Google Play. Apple (iOS) device users can find authenticator apps at the App Store. A few popular authenticator apps found in these app stores, for example, are Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy.

Supported Mobile Device Authenticator Apps

MOVEit Transfer works with authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator, Authy, and Microsoft Authenticator. Authenticator Apps are available from the app store associated with your mobile device, including iTunes and Google Play.

After you install and open your authenticator, you will need to Scan the QR Code.

Note: MOVEit Transfer is compatible with authenticator applications like Google Authenticator that implement RFC 6238 ( Time-Based One-Time Password) and RFC 4226 ( HMAC-Based One-Time Passwords).
