Assumptions
- You have any of these roles for the model: MANAGER, EDITOR, CONTRIBUTOR, REVIEWER
- You have an existing model.
- You have more than one language activated in the model for use. (Note: You do not need to have any language packs installed to use languages in the model.)
Explanation
Every model has a default language selected that is in effect for all users of the model. All concept preferred labels will appear in navigation in that language.
This article explains how an individual user can change the display language while working in the model without changing the default language for anyone else.
Section 1 explains how to do so if you have one of these roles: MANAGER, EDITOR, CONTRIBUTOR. Section 2 explains how to do so if you have one of these roles: REVIEWER.
Method
Section 1: MANAGER, EDITOR, CONTRIBUTOR roles
- From the Knowledge Model Management main screen, click the model you want to open (for this example, Space Missions).
- Click Language. Here you can see a list of all active languages in the model, and you can add more. Make note of which language is set to default. (In the “Space Missions” model, set English as the default.)
- Click Open Master to open the master model.
- On the left, click and expand one of your branches (in this example, Programmes & Missions). Notice how the language filter menu (#1 in image) is set to the default language (in this example, “English (en)”).
Notice also that the labels appear in that language (#2 in image).

- Click the arrow beside the language to expand it, and then choose another language from the list (in this example, French (fr)).

- See the “Outcome” section below.
Section 2: REVIEWER role
Users with the REVIEWER role do not see the same Knowledge Model Management views as others. Instead, they work through the Knowledge Review Tool (KRT).
- Click the model you want to open (for this example, Space Missions).

- Click Master to open the master model.

- On the left, click Tree View. (The following steps are the same for the Visualiser, but the Tree View illustrates the language better.)

- See “Outcome” section below.
Outcome
After applying the changes, you will notice these differences:
- The language filter now shows the new filter language (#1 in images). (In this example, “French (fr)”.)
- If a concept label does not exist in the chosen language, an existing label from the default language, such as language neutral or English, will appear, along with the language code (#2 in images).
- Preferred labels now appear in the new chosen language (#3 in images).
