SMS Direct messages are similar to SMS messages, except a phone line is not required. Instead, messages are sent directly to a cell phone, or other texting capable device, via a GSM modem. If the receiving phone is not active or is out of range when a SMS message is sent, messages are received when the phone is turned on. SMS messages are listed in the WhatsUp Gold Action log.

You need the following items to use the SMS Action:

  • GSM modem to connect to the WhatsUp Gold machine
  • SIM card for the GSM modem
  • Cell service/signal in the room in which the WhatsUp Gold machine and GSM modem reside

Configure the following:

Message

  • Name. Name for the action.
  • Description. Short description about the action.
  • Phone number. Cell phone number(s) of the intended SMS message recipients. All non-numeric characters such as "-" and "." are ignored. There is a 2,000 character limit in this box.

  • COM Port. Select the COM port you want to use with this notification.
    注: The list displays all ports associated with the GSM modem, including virtual and hard-wired, serial ports. You must select the port that is assigned to the modem in the Windows Device Manager.
  • Message. Enter a text message, plus any desired percent variable codes. Note that percent variables can expand actual character count.

Alert Center Message

Alert Center Message. Message that is to be sent from a WhatsUp Gold Alert Center notification including percent variable codes. Note that embedding percent variables can expand actual character count.

提示: To enter Alert Center percent variables, click the Alert Center Message box.
注: If the message exceeds 140 characters, the message will be broken into up to 3 parts and will be sent as separate messages ("1 of 3", "1 of 2", etc.).
