In order to migrate your existing WhatsUp Gold server, which has an existing master secret key, to a new server, and continue using the same master secret key:

  1. Run the WhatsUp Gold installer on the new server.
  2. When prompted, select the option to use an existing master secret key and enter the existing master secret key from your existing installation. You can export the Master Secret key from the Key Manager on your existing WhatsUp Gold server.
  3. Complete the installation.

We now have a blank WhatsUp Gold installation using the same master secret key from the original server. Now we can restore the database from the existing server to the new server:

  1. Launch the WhatsUp Gold admin console.
  2. Select Tools > Database Utilities > Restore WhatsUp Gold SQL Database. Please note, this launches a dialog informing you of the Master Secret Key requirement and provides direct access to the Key Manager application.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Navigate to and select the WhatsUp Gold database backup you want to restore.
  5. Click Open.
  6. Enter the SQL admin account username and password, then click OK.
  7. When prompted, click Yes to indicate you understand the Ipswitch Service Control Manager service and the WhatsUp Gold application pool in IIS will be stopped and restarted.
